Happy Wednesday, Reader!

This note will be brief today because I'm attending a business conference this week, then visiting my dad next week and seeing other family members who all live in this area of the world. My dad has been ill, and it's rather a hard time.

I almost didn't write today, but then I realized I didn't write you for Sunday's note as I was on the road without internet. I think you'll find this quick herbal note helpful, especially if you're interested in better health (and who isn't?). ๐Ÿฅฐ

Certain herbs are very high in vitamins and minerals that are in bioavailable form because they're considered "food" herbs. These include dandelion leaf, nettle leaf, chickweed, horsetail (which is high in silica--great for nails), and many, many others. Try adding these to your daily diet. They're not expensive, and your body will love you for it!

And then there are essential oils.

Many essential oils support healthy hair such as rosemary and peppermint, tea tree and eucalyptus. This group also supports respiratory health and energy levels!

If you want to learn herbalism and haven't yet started or are just dabbling, you're invited to join us in your journey! I'd be honored and look forward to seeing you inside!โ€‹

In the meantime, here are some articles and a video about how to get some herbal nutrition added to your diet in healthy (and delicious) ways:

1) Eight Things to Do for Healthy Teeth

Your teeth, hair, nails, etc. rely on good nutrition, and herbs and natural ways can be so very helpful! Find out how to make your own mineral-rich tooth powder and seven more helpful ways to support your mouth health.

2) The Perfect Recipe for Rich Bone Broth

Do you make your own bone broth?

This is one of the first homesteading skills I learned so long ago, and it's one of the skills I most value. First, making your own ensures you don't waste any part of the animal, and you can even get bones from a local butcher who works with grassfed farmers.

Second, it's WAY more delicious and much healthier than store-bought tepid brands. It's also less salty, unless you add salt. I don't add additional salt, myself. Making your own bone broth is one of the ways you can also add your healthy herbs!

I like to add these, and no I don't measure. I just dump them in. Also, I'll mix and match them so no batch of my bone broth is ever the same.

  • Elderberries (yes, these are delightful in bone broth!)
  • Nettle leaf
  • Dandelion leaf (In the spring and summer, I'll often pull up an entire plant, clean the roots, and add the whole thing to the pot)
  • Burdock root
  • Chickweed
  • Cleavers
  • and More

Most of these support healthy detoxification in the body too!

Third, you can make large batches and can them! We make sure we always have at least 20 quart jars available in our pantry at all times.

3) How to Render Tallow and Make Handmade Soap

This may sound a little hard-core homestead, but to be honest, it's fun and easy to render your own tallow. Tallow is incredible for skincare, and I love making beautiful white handmade soap with it.

In this article, I share how I accidentally rendered tallow long ago, and then formulated a beautiful handmade soap recipe, which I share too! If you don't want to render your own tallow, you can certainly just purchase it. Lard works too!

March 9, 2025 Happy Scentsational Sunday, Reader! How are you on this glorious day? I have some great herbal ideas to help you handle seasonal allergies and boost your immune system, plus a few special Daylight Savings surprises! Many people have reached out to me recently about their seasonal allergies. I used to suffer from these for most of the year for literally decades! When I started working with medicinal herbs---herbs that I could forage in the mountains near by our city of Las Vegas...

March 2, 2025 Happy Sunday, Reader! Goodness, it's March already! It's a good luck month! In today's note, we'll discuss sleep, stress, and why it matters. Did you know that 60 to 70 million Americans have difficulty sleeping, and 30% to 40% report insomnia? That's around 1 in 5 adults at any given time. Accompanying issues include sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome (RLS), and even narcolepsy (falling asleep at random times). Sleep disorders occur more often with age, and women are more...

February 23, 2025 Happy Scentsational Sunday, Reader! This is a very short note as I'm actually on my way home from Southern Nevada and Utah today. It takes us two days to drive from Las Vegas to our small town in the panhandle of North Central Idaho, and I'm feeling it. Luckily, essential oils and herbs to the rescue! Can you feel spring on its way? Down here in the Southwest, it's here! Trees are even budding out. Up north, our neighbor has been sending pictures us pictures of our property,...
