What's your relationship with time?🌿🌼🌿And other plant medicine thoughts.....

Happy Herbal Wednesday, Reader!

I have a great quote for you that I found on a scrap of paper I had copied it on many years ago:

"Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four-hour days." ---Zig Ziglar

I've not always had the best relationship with time. I've often felt overwhelmed, like I'm going crazy with everything to do. Sometimes, I feel behind with some endeavor or other---like during the gardening season, canning season, the holidays, in a class I'm taking, visiting family, writing books for the School of Botanical Arts & Sciences (SOBAS) and I could go on.....

Do you ever feel like this too?

One of my friends once told me, "Don't indulge in overwhelm."

The word "indulge" is interesting. Is feeling overwhelmed (and talking about all the stress, pressure, and this and that) indulgence? And I feel it may be sinful in regards to overwhelm, as it's very closely related to worry.

Regardless....

Time scarcity is a horrible feeling...and that's all it is...a feeling. But it can massively negatively impact how we show up in our lives.

It leaves us always feeling anxious, and these days there's a siren's call to relieve the stress by wasting actual good time on things that we shouldn't--like social media or useless TV. We might even start mis-thinking about the value of time. But really, time is our one and only most important resource. Once it's gone, it's gone.

Let's shift our perception of time so we can approach our present situations with calm and vibrant energy —energy that helps us live in the present moment in a healthy way.

Choose only the best and most relevant things to spend your precious time on. Things that leave a legacy!

Be like a tree.....

Trees take a LONG time to grow. Literally decades and centuries of quiet, slow, consistent growth finally result in toweringly beautiful trees. They just keep doing what they are meant to do, year after year after year....and the result is breathtaking.

So find great comfort in whatever stage you're in. Give yourself grace. Resolve to enjoy and utilize the present moment well. You're in a state of evolution and change too! You only get to experience this day once. Find gratitude in the small moments and work on your plan.

You're not early in your life. You're not late in your life. You are right on time!

Things I consider when I'm determining what things to say, "NO" or "YES" to are these:

1) Will what I'm doing leave a legacy of good somehow?

2) What will be the worst and best consequence if I don't do this or that thing?

3) What does God think of all this?

These questions help me make better decisions, I've noticed.

And...if you need to shift your mindset or change your relationship with time, there's never a better time....

"For everything, there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven...." Ecclesiastes 3:1

Preparing for any eventual emergency or problem is never a waste of time. Herbalism and aromatherapy are strong subsections in that camp.

Years ago, when I was still teaching public school, one of the teachers I worked with had an issue, and from that point on, I started carrying a "Get-Home Bag" in my vehicle.

I just updated that article, which you can read here. I also made a video for you, and you can find it inside that article.

Calendula has SO many benefits and uses, and I know you'll love working with this amazing plant. It's golden touch infuses green olive oil until it's a lovely orange-yellow color. Beautiful!

Have a beautiful Wednesday, my friend!

Happy Herbal and Aromatic Wednesday, Reader! Are you feeling the energizing shifts of spring? For those in the Northern Hemisphere, you're likely feeling the effects of longer days of light. Perhaps you've already seen the first daffodils pushing their way upward toward the sun and felt the invitation to get outside and move your body to release the winter stagnation. I know I have! I've been enjoying the spring air, watching the deer,...

March 2, 2025 Happy Sunday, Reader! Goodness, it's March already! It's a good luck month! In today's note, we'll discuss sleep, stress, and why it matters. Did you know that 60 to 70 million Americans have difficulty sleeping, and 30% to 40% report insomnia? That's around 1 in 5 adults at any given time. Accompanying issues include sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome (RLS), and even narcolepsy (falling asleep at random times). Sleep disorders occur more often with age, and women are more...
