Spring cleaning recipes and some GREAT news! 🌿🌼🌿 Scentsational Saturday!

April 19, 2025

Happy Saturday, Reader!

I'm sending my usual Scentsational Sunday note today instead of tomorrow because tomorrow is Resurrection Day and Easter Sunday! I'll be spending the day in church and then with visiting family, and I'm feeling so happy about this rest. I hope you're enjoying peaceful, beautiful times this weekend as we celebrate our greatest gift!

In the spirit of spring, I thought I'd share more natural spring cleaning tips with you! If you've missed the past couple of notes, be sure to catch up because there are other great cleaning tips and herbal ideas in those, too.

Today, let's talk about....

Dishwashers! 🥰

Does yours ever start to feel "yucky?" Or smell funky? Mine sure does.

I used to think they were difficult (or just annoying) to clean, but now I've got a natural plan that's great!

Here it is:

Deep Clean Dishwasher Formula

The acid in the vinegar cuts grease and grime wonderfully! Then the lemon essential oil kicks in and helps the vinegar out in the grease/grime endeavor while also being an effective deodorizer for your beloved dishwasher. Thyme essential oil is not only deodorizing, but it's also highly antimicrobial, too.

Ingredients:

About 2 cups of white vinegar

About 10 to 12 drops of lemon essential oil

Optional: 5 to 10 drops of thyme essential oil

Directions:

Remove the grate at the bottom of your dishwasher, and wash well with soap and water. Return it to your dishwasher.

Now pour the vinegar into a cereal bowl or similar size. Add the lemon essential oil and the thyme essential oil if using.

Be sure your dishwasher is completely empty.

Carefully place the bowl facing straight up on the top rack. Close your dishwasher and start it on the cycle that's the hottest.

Enjoy a fresh dishwasher!

Natural living is fun, smells amazing, and pretty easy (as well as saving a ton of money in the long term) with tips like this. Try to start incorporating more natural ideas into your home living to further detoxify your environment.

Clean Home Diffuser Blends

Seriously.

There is nothing like a home that smells clean, fresh, and incredible. It's a place you love to be! And that's how our homes should smell--refreshing, calming, peaceful, like a sanctuary we come to for rest.

Scent can do wonders in this regard.

Have you heard of hygge (pronounced HOO-gah)?

This is a Danish practice of creating a lovely, cozy home environment. I think scent completely belongs in this realm...natural scents of course. Hygge is especially important during the winter months in Denmark because of the darkness, and it's a big deal over there. But I argue that hygge is a concept to add value to your beautiful home all year long---even in the spring!

You can read more about hygge here!

Here are a couple of blends to pop into your diffuser to refresh and add to the natural environment in your lovely home. Just add the drops to your diffuser, making any adjustments in drops for preference or manufacturer's instructions, and enjoy!

Sparkly Clean Blend

This blend promises to create an atmosphere of freshness!

3 drops peppermint essential oil

3 drops orange essential oil

3 drops lime essential oil

Clean the Air Blend

3 drops eucalyptus essential oil

3 drops bergamot essential oil (substitute lemon if you don't have bergamot)

This is too good to miss!

Although I mainly teach herbalism and aromatherapy, I'm also a homesteader and well-versed in all the homestead things from chickens to goats; to growing food and medicine; preserving; baking; and all the homesteady kinds of things. It's a way of life, and it's a blessing to know these valuable skills.

Many people didn't have access to these lessons growing up like I did back in the 60's on our family one-acre plot in Las Vegas. LUCKILY, I'm here to tell you that it's never too late to begin learning and applying traditional skills that serve your family's health--and pocketbook.

My friend, Shelby DeVore (who I just adore) of Garden.Farm.Thrive. is hosting an incredible Homegrown Living Summit, and it's next week!

Guess what?

It's FREE to attend.

And what a great speaker line-up, too! I'm fan-girling already over getting to hear Wardeh Harmon and Lisa Steele, among many others!

Sunday is the LAST day to sign up, and it starts Monday!

I'll see you there!

Thank you for being part of the natural living, homesteading, herbalism, aromatherapy movements that are taking modern society by storm....at least for those of us who are awake.

I love you, and I am so grateful you've chosen to be on my newsletter list. I hope you find a ton of value in it, and if you have things you'd like me to write about, just hit "reply" and let me know!

Finally, I just want to say how blessed we all are that death could not hold Him! Rejoice in the Resurrection and in the greatest gift of all time!

"But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you." Romans 8:11

Hugs, Health, Herbs, and Self-Reliance,

Heidi

P.S. TIP: Be sure to set an alarm if you're wanting to remember to get signed up for Shelby's summit or to take the opportunity for savings on our certification courses before the links expire on Sunday night! Alarms help me to remember if I can't get to something right away.

If you ever miss one of my newsletters and want to catch up, you can see the last few weeks HERE. If you bookmark that page, you'll be able to find it easily. April 16, 2025 Happy Herbal Wednesday, Reader! Have you ever hurt yourself SUPER badly all of a sudden? I think all of us have probably experienced terrible pains.... Last year, I put my back out BADLY, and I'll never, EVER forget the excruciating pain. That had never happened to me before, and I finally got a taste of what people mean by SPASMS. They rocked my body, and I literally screamed as I dropped to the ground, then cried huge tears as pain wracked my torso. I couldn't even breathe...

April 9, 2025 Happy Day, Reader! Here's one of my favorite spring poems to start us off today: “There is no glory in star or blossom till looked upon by a loving eye; There is no fragrance in April breezes till breathed with joy as they wander by.” ---William Cullen Bryant This poem helps me to be more mindful and grateful when I see all the new flowers bursting forth! Just this week, my daffodils are blooming, our forsythia bush burst into golden glow with all the blossoms, the wild violet...
