Nope, this isn't an April fool's joke 🌿🌼🌿 Weekly Wednesday's Herbal Tips & Recipe!

April 16, 2025

Happy Herbal Wednesday, Reader!

Have you ever hurt yourself SUPER badly all of a sudden? I think all of us have probably experienced terrible pains....

Last year, I put my back out BADLY, and I'll never, EVER forget the excruciating pain. That had never happened to me before, and I finally got a taste of what people mean by SPASMS.

They rocked my body, and I literally screamed as I dropped to the ground, then cried huge tears as pain wracked my torso. I couldn't even breathe because my lungs weren't working right.

Crawling through the door, I called for Joe to please come help me, because I couldn't get up. I am SO glad I knew what to do and that I had some quick and easy herbal options at the ready.

As I laid there crying on the floor, I told him which essential oils to go grab and how to get them onto my spasming back. Then, once I could take a bit of a breath, and could feel my muscles starting to relax....JUST a bit, I asked him to help me gather tinctures. I could hobble into the herb room, but I couldn't lift them from the shelves.

In gratitude, I took four different tincture doses--nice big ones, and heavy duty ones designed to reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and calm muscle spasms....

In just 15 minutes, I was breathing quietly, and in great relief.

God heard my prayers of gratitude that day, for sure. With the help of medicinal tinctures, herbal teas, and essential oils and salves, my back was completely, 100% better within just two days. I'm sure it would have taken a LOT longer than that without medicinal plants to the rescue.

Having what you need on hand for ALL the reasons is such a blessing, and this knowledge can and should be available to all of us. All we have to do is to choose to learn and then DO. That's what we teach here at the School of Botanical Arts & Sciences (SOBAS) by Healing Harvest Homestead.

And now it's time to celebrate!

Herbalists Day is tomorrow!

I told you a surprise was coming, and here it is!

If you've been wanting to take the Family Herbalist Certification program and/or the Aromatherapy Specialist Certification program....I have the BEST surprise for you!

They're both ON SALE for 25% off on the full-price options through this Sunday! That's significant savings on these courses (and paying full price saves you even more). The only time my larger courses ever go on sale is "maybe" during Black Friday... And for the Aromatherapy Specialist course, you're getting the savings off the BETA price, too, which is saving you even MORE. For a VERY short time.

Why am I doing this?

Well, it's Easter time, and I love this time of year. Resurrection Day is the most important day in ALL the year. And, since it's also Herbalist's Day, well, I couldn't resist.

My mission and hope is that we'll get qualified, safe, effective herbalists into every extended family as quickly as possible. With the state of the world right now, we never know what's going to happen, and knowing how to make your family's medicine with God's plants is a game-changer. It's a great time to take action!

Now, I'm NOT sending a ton of emails about this incredible sale.

So, if you've been thinking about taking one (or both) of these incredible certification courses, act now, and save until April 20th, 2025. Use the code: HERBALIST at checkout.

How to Truly Be Prepared for Health Needs

In these times, it's common for people to hear advice about "stocking up." Unfortunately, this advice is rather poor. It's a little stop-gap, is all.

I wrote about this a few years ago when all the "prepper" types and homesteaders were yelling to "be ready." And YES, I'm a believer in being prepared---just not crazily so---in more of a "logical" way.

When it comes to some things, like our medicine, for example, it's a finite resource, unless we know how to make our own.

Food---we can grow, hunt, or barter for if we need to, at least to some extent.

Shelter---we can take measures to make sure where we live is strong.

Water---we can be sure we have a filter on hand...just in case.

Medications?---Most of us, unfortunately, are not truly health prepared. Here's an example:

I watched this homestead lady on YouTube show her MASSIVE pile of medications she had purchased at the drugstore, ALL of which had expiration dates, and most of which are actually BAD for us...and she thought she was the epitome of ready. (Plus, I'm sure she spent well over $600 for her pile.)

I wanted to cry for her.

Do you know how amazing it is to walk out your door and gather the herbs you need?

And if you can't gather them, know which ones to purchase and have ready in long-term, stable preparation forms like tinctures, acetums, and oxymels?

Spring Cleaning Tip + Recipe for the Week

Natural living is a journey, and with how toxic the world is, it's just something that I've decided to aspire to, even if 100% detoxification in our environment probably isn't possible.

One of the ways we can clean up our bodies and homes is by using our herbs and essential oils! They're incredibly helpful for cleansing and clearing the air, surfaces, our skin and bodies, and improving our health.

I love using cleaning products that actually support health, don't you? Here's one of my favorites for you:

Kitchen and Bathroom Cleaning Scrub

I love a good, natural soft scrub that cleans as it works and also contributes to supporting the immune system. And, this one is inexpensive and EASY.

Ingredients:

10 drops lemon essential oil (Citrus limon)

10 drops thyme essential oil (Thymus vulgaris ct thymol or ct linalool) (Thymol is a much more powerful chemical constituent for cleaning, but the linalool smells much better....you choose!)

10 drops pine essential oil (Pinus spp)

5 drops eucalyptus essential oil (Eucalyptus globulus)

1 1/2 cups baking soda

4 tbsp unscented castile liquid soap

2 tbsp white vinegar

Directions:

Make this without the vinegar for storing in a jar. Or, you can make it up as needed and add everything as is. **You can still store it with a bit of the vinegar, too.

Combine the essential oils and the castile soap. The soap will disperse the essential oils. If adding your vinegar, do it now, then add the baking soda and mix well. Add the castile soap and any extra vinegar you need to make it smooth and to a consistency you like.

Use as an abrasive, but relatively gentle, scrub to help remove soap scum, dirt, and grime.

It's better than toxic commercial options, I promise!

Thousands have already saved a seat to my friend, Shelby DeVore's (Garden.Farm.Thrive.) Homegrown Living Summit coming up next week!

April 9, 2025 Happy Day, Reader! Here's one of my favorite spring poems to start us off today: “There is no glory in star or blossom till looked upon by a loving eye; There is no fragrance in April breezes till breathed with joy as they wander by.” ---William Cullen Bryant This poem helps me to be more mindful and grateful when I see all the new flowers bursting forth!
