Happy newsletter Wednesday, my friend!
Has the weather ever pulled a switcheroo on you? Well that's what it did for me today! It started out sunny, with a high to be in the mid-eighties....and here we are just a couple hours later with a drizzle and much cooler high temps in the forecast. How does that happen?
And...if you're in the path of Hurricane Ian, my prayers are with you for safety and protection from the storm. Big, BIG hugs from me to you! I hope it passes quickly with little damage.

Did you get my note from yesterday?
I have a little surprise for you! It's a free mini-course I'm sharing this week, with a new video every couple of days, just for you. Yesterday the first video came out!
Tomorrow the second video in the series comes out. If you've wanted to create a home apothecary for your family, you should be sure to watch the videos! You can even make some or all of the items as we go through it.
โHere's a link to the video page and schedule....and remember! It's FREE. I'll be sending a note with tomorrow's 2nd video link in the morning so stay tuned! But for now, the first one's out, if you missed it!

My sister-in-law and hubby are visiting us right now, and Sis walked into my office and said, "OH, my gosh! It smells SO good in here!"
Now, I hear this all the time, so I just laughed. In fact, my whole house gets compliments. This is because of the essential oils I diffuse in various rooms for various reasons! And yes....my home smells A-Mazing!
The blend I was diffusing when she walked in is one of my favorites. It's my blend I use for focus, good thinking, and concentration. It's great for the brain! So....guess what?
I'm sharing it with you today!
Focus and Concentration Blend Recipe
Now, I'm giving you the stock blend recipe, which is more than what you'll put in your diffuser. After you have it made up in its own bottle, you'll just use the number of drops you want to use in your diffuser, which should be between 5 and 15 drops depending on your own diffuser and also your preference for scent. You can also use this blend in personal inhalers.
The lemon essential oil it contains potentially makes it phototoxic, so do NOT use it on any skin that's going to be exposed to sunlight or a tanning bed..... This blend is best inhaled for maximum results, anyway.
Ingredients:
40 drops lemon essential oil (Citrus limon)
10 drops sage essential oil (Salvia officinalis)
10 drops rosemary essential oil (Rosmarinus officinalis)
10 drops coriander essential oil (Coriandrum sativum)
Notes about the essential oils and some chemistry:
Lemon brightens your mood and also boosts your immune system due to the high levels of d-limonene it contains.
Sage is antimicrobial and has been studied specifically for its benefits on concentration.
Rosemary has been known for thousands of years now to affect and improve memory. It's also antimicrobial and helpful for boosting concentration.
I love the coriander in this blend because it contains VERY high levels of linalool which calms a racing brain and reduces anxious feelings. I love this when I'm feeling overwhelmed with a lot to do, and it's great for people with test anxiety, too.
Together this blend smells fresh, green, uplifting, and just plain beautiful. Enjoy!
Where I purchase my own essential oils:

โAromatics Internationalโ

On Natural Skincare Needs for Fall....
A couple weeks ago, I formulated all the recipes for the upcoming October, 2022 Herbally Accomplished Workshop....Fun Fall Skincare! I've been using them consistently since then, and my skin is loving it!
In the October workshop, we'll be learning about the importance of the various aspects of a good skincare routine and creating seven different products together that are perfect for the fall for most people. I'll also be sharing ways to adjust the recipes for special needs. I've kept the ingredients simple and easy to find!
Want to join us and create an amazing herbal skincare line of products?
You can find out more here, in the Fall, 2022 Herbally Accomplished Series.
NOTE: September's workshop, Your Invisible Army: Understanding Your Immune System, with several projects students made as we move into the fall months of cold and flu, was a SUCCESS! This September was our very first Herbally Accomplished Workshop, and for such a "dry" subject, got great reviews!
It's now available for purchase separately. But you can save at least $34 by purchasing the entire Fall, 2022 Herbally Accomplished Series as a bundle!

Encouragement and Inspiration
"Happy are the unentitled." ---Max Lucado
Don't we all want attention? Don't we all want to be noticed? Don't we all want to be seen in the world as important?
But expecting to be lavished with kudos, applause, and attention for our actions is just plain foolish. And when we compare ourselves to others....it's especially dangerous, potentially leading to depression.
There's a saying in the social media world...."To compare is to despair."
I'm challenging myself to celebrate everything good that happens to everyone else...on purpose. I'm challenging myself to assume nothing from others and to reduce my expectations to the minimum.
When we do this, guess what happens?
We're happier.
I feel for the jealous souls out there....there's just no joy in that feeling. It's not a place I want to be. And...I'm speaking as one who has struggled with "comparisonitis."
So let's go have fun on purpose and celebrate the good things that happen to other people! Whether they're perceived or real....let's rejoice in their successes, in their accomplishments, in their promotions, and all other good things. Let's renew our mind in all the GOOD things!
"Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep." Romans 12:15
Max Lucado, in his book, How Happiness Happens, goes on to say, "Make a big deal out of others, and expect a blue-ribbon day. You will move from joy to joy as you regard other people's success as more important than your own."

On the Homestead....
Guess what?
The goldenseal rootlets we planted on top of the mountain are sprouting! I'm not sure what this means as we merge into fall, but I'm taking it as a good sign! I just hope they make it through winter. Time will tell!
โHere's a video of how we created a bed for them and planted them up along with some protection from predators. They're far from the house, so checking on them isn't possible every day.
We're SO busy bringing in the rest of the harvest before winter sets in. Mr. V. told me we're ready to make our annual Winterizing List so we can be completely ready before first frost. And that's coming right up in just a week or two, if patterns repeat themselves, as they do.
I hope you're safe and well on your homestead, wherever you are. And be sure to dig into making herbal preparations to take care of your health needs. This is SO important.
Hugs, Health, and Self-Reliance,
Heidi
P.S. Don't forget to look out for the second video in the FREE apothecary series that's coming to your inbox tomorrow!

April 16, 2025 Happy Herbal Wednesday, Reader! Have you ever hurt yourself SUPER badly all of a sudden? I think all of us have probably experienced terrible pains.... Last year, I put my back out BADLY, and I'll never, EVER forget the excruciating pain. That had never happened to me before, and I finally got a taste of what people mean by SPASMS. They rocked my body, and I literally screamed as I dropped to the ground, then cried huge tears as pain wracked my torso. I couldn't even breathe...
