November 20, 2024 Happy Wednesday, Reader! How are you doing as we get closer to Thanksgiving Day next week? These times are fun for some, hard for others, and super busy for most of us. I don't know about you, but I sometimes find myself in a little funk this time of year, even though I'm so grateful about my life. I hear this is a common thing. Luckily, I have a great strategy to share with you today! Use aromatherapy in your shower for a fast, easy, and effective spa experience at home. Since you're taking a shower anyway, this takes no extra time at all. Because essential oils contain complex mixtures of chemical constituents that act directly on your limbic system (the mood and emotion center of the brain), you can emerge from an aromatherapy shower feeling like a completely different person. Essential oils and an easy aromatherapy shower can:
Here are some ways to use essential oils in the shower that are so simple and easy: 🌿 Easy, fast way: Add several drops to an area in your shower that doesn't receive shower spray. The volatile oil will evaporate into the steam, and as you breathe this in....bliss! (This is what I do most of the time) 🌿 Washcloth method: Wet it down, give it a little wring, and add a few drops of the essential oil to it. Place this in a corner or stand of your shower where it's not directly hit with water. 🌿 Add essential oils to a sugar or salt body scrub or to your shampoo if it's unscented. 🌿 Make a shower steamer (I shared a formula a few weeks ago in a newsletter, so if you missed it, you can read it here.) Essential Oil Choices: For Energy, Motivation, and Focus: Try eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary, sage For Relaxation, Calm, Sleep: Try black spruce, lavender, clary sage, bergamot, chamomile, patchouli For an Uplifted Mood! Try grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, pine, bergamot, yuzu, lime To Enhance Creativity: Try frankincense, rose (or geranium), cinnamon, cardamom, jasmine, neroli To Soothe Congestion: Try peppermint, eucalyptus, laurel, ravintsara, saro, rosemary, cardamom What a great way to give yourself a little self-care and support emotional health while doing something you'd normally do anyway, right? You can find my vetted list of companies which I buy my own essential oils from on THIS shopping page about halfway down. NOTE: 95% of these companies I am NOT an affiliate for (I earn no commission)---but I 100% recommend them, and they're where I purchase my own supplies. I want the best for you. *************************** Natural Ideas for Skin Health and Beauty As a long time sufferer of painful rosacea acne (about 25 years of my life), I personally know the importance of good, natural products and strategies for my body. Here are some of the things that have worked for me in the process of clearing up my skin and making it healthy again. **Preface: I know I talk all the time about how ditching the drugstore literally saved my life, but if you're on meds and need to be, you can still improve liver function and health. 1) I got off ALL meds (OTC and Rx). I think this is the #1 thing that helped me. 2) I cleaned up my body---fewer processed foods, more whole foods, lots of good water. 3) I use herbs and remedies that support the liver. Did you know that if your liver is struggling, it often presents in the form of a skin issue? Take a look at herbs that are wonderful for helping our skin via the liver's function. 4) I turned to natural skin and home products---or at least as natural as possible. Bye-bye fake fragrances, endocrine disruptors, and carcinogens! I love making my own skincare products. I get to pick and customize the oils, essential oils, butters, and all else that goes on my skin. It's wonderful. But.... like many of us, I no longer have the time to devote to formulation and product making. It's frustrating and sad. I solved the problem about 3 years ago by purchasing quality products that are priced right and that are as close to what I'd make myself as possible. I don't talk about where I buy skincare very often, but since I'm asked, I thought I'd share here because this company is great. It's a small family owned company. When I discovered them several years ago and fell in love with the products, I became an affiliate because of the generous 25% discount. Anyone can do this! You can find out more about them here. **I even love the mascara, which is organic. **************************** Stay tuned for a Black Friday Surprise! Be sure to open my coming note in a few days to find out! Have a beautiful week! Relax, take an aroma-shower or several, and stay healthy, grateful, and peaceful. Hugs, Health, and Herbs, Heidi P.S. May 19, 2025 Happy Monday, Reader! I know this isn't a typical day for me to send a note, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get my usually Wednesday note out to you because we're thick in the middle of the BIG move. We have our homestead on the mountain. And we have our apothecary and clinic and studio here in town. We've been searching for three years now to find the perfect place to recombine them, and finally, we have found the place! You're going to love the foraging and all the herbal and...
May 14, 2025 Happy Wednesday, Reader! As I sit here looking out the window at our apothecary/clinic/office downtown in Orofino, I'm looking at nearly 100 tiny trees just waiting to be put into the ground. It's quite a lovely sight, and a reminder of the pleasant outdoor work to come very, very soon at our new place... If you haven't heard, we're moving to a larger property that will hold both our home and the entire business and school, provide live in person teaching space, and more land for...
May 7, 2025 Happy Wednesday, Reader! "Are you a prepper?" the man asked me. I looked at him quizzically, and he burst out laughing. "You don't know what a prepper IS, do you?" I shook my head, "No," and asked him, "What's a prepper?" He didn't really answer because our real estate agent drove up just then. He and I had been waiting outside the tiny off-grid cabin Joe and I were getting ready to purchase, enjoying the beauty of the mountain property. This was back in about 2013, and we were...
