11/26/2025 Happy Herbal Wednesday! I'm getting ready to cook for Thanksgiving Day tomorrow. This is going to be one of the most different Thanksgivings we've had, as I'll be cooking most of the meal then driving it over to my mom's house, where we'll have our small gathering together. I had some memories, as I was gathering items in the kitchen.... When I was a little girl, Thanksgiving was very different than in these modern days. It was chaotic. It was messy. It was BIG. My mom and dad would almost always take our entire family of five to one of my grandparents' homes. At my Great-Grandma Mimi's house (10 hours away), it was a good group of our family, sometimes my aunt and uncle and their baby, my great-grandpa, grandpa, and us. I loved going to Mimi's house. It was cozy and beautiful. Mimi always spent time with me and talked to me. Most Thanksgivings, though, we would drive to my Grandma Gubler's house in Southern Utah. It was just a couple of hours away, and this gathering was huge. Her (or my aunt's) home would completely fill with families. I think sometimes there might have been a hundred people there, with all our cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, grandma and grandpa. Everyone had a BIG family, and our branch was comparitively small. All the kids would head outdoors, and we just played and played. There was a long, steep hill nearby, and we would all walk to the top. Then, we'd run as fast as we dared down it. There were many scrapes and a few tumbles....but we felt so brave, big and tough. Sometimes we'd slide down the desert side of the hill....and once my little sister got a fanny full of cactus spines in her heiny. As the years have whittled away, and my own children have grown up and moved all over the United States, gatherings are no longer big like this for us. Families now tend to limit how many people attend, at least in my world, and if you're not on the list early, you might be on your own. I am so glad to have had those wonderful and amazing memories. To know what a large gathering feels like. To remember how much love and joy there was in all that chaos, or even the long drive to Mimi's. How blessed to have had these experiences. AND....I am incredibly blessed to have my mom nearby. To enjoy the love and joy that we have, even in our small gatherings. It's all about the gathering..... I love cooking Thanksgiving Dinner. I always have. It's cozy and gracious. It's warm, and I love feeding people. Any people who want to be here. Tomorrow we will have a very tiny group of us, and that is ok. It's different. And it's still wonderful. At the end of the day, I believe one of our greatest responsibilities is simple: gratitude. Gratitude for one another, for this gorgeous earth God has entrusted to us, for the animals who share our lives, for the gifts of the plants that support and heal us, and for the gift of waking up each morning with breath in our lungs and purpose in our hearts. This world throws so much at us—constant noise, conflict, fear-driven headlines, and a feeling that things are spinning out of control. I know that sense of overwhelm deeply. I often find myself wishing I could fix everything… bring healing, restore balance, make things right. And while I absolutely believe in taking action where we can, I also know this: Real change begins with a grateful heart. Gratitude roots us, steadies us, and opens us up to the gentle ways God is still working in the world and in our lives. From that grounded place, fear softens, compassion grows, and what feels heavy begins to transform into something fruitful—just like compost turning into rich, life-giving soil. Today, I’m so very thankful. Truly thankful. 🌿 For you. 🍁 For this little corner of community we get to share. 🌻 For the trust you place in me as you walk your own herbal and natural living journey, learning from our newsletters, videos, articles, and in our School of Botanical Arts & Sciences. 🌿 I’m grateful for the plants—those “everyday miracles” that have supported my family, and probably yours, for generations, AND especially for the fact that we get to relearn these ancient herbal medicine traditions together, now, in these modern days. 🍁 I’m grateful for the old knowledge passed down through hands and hearts long before ours… through family, neighbors, friends, and communities who cared enough to keep the wisdom of how things used to be alive---especially how to use the gifts of the medicinal plants from our Father. 🌻 And I’m grateful we get to continue that tradition together. Thank you so much for being here. 🥰 ****************************** Black Friday Sale this Year! It's here! 12/1/2025 Happy Cyber Monday! I was standing in my kitchen yesterday, stirring a cup of herbal tea I had just blended up, both to kickstart my immune system and also to provide a bit of help to my post-menopausal hair..... The well-known and loved feeling of blessing and awe that I know what herbs to choose, how to combine, and what to consume to support my body and the bodies of my sweet family and friends for both chronic and acute needs once again washed over me. I can't tell you how many...
Use code: BFCM20 on ALL courses (Even the Tribe) 11/28/2025 Yay! It's Black Friday! Here's a quick Black Friday story..... I remember when my (now 35 year old) 12 year old son wanted a computer, and they were SO expensive 23-ish years ago. They were also dial-up, slow, clunky, and kind of worthless..... But they were the new thing! Our little family was visiting in Carson City, NV with my mom for Thanksgiving that year, and the next morning was the BIG Black Friday sale at the brand NEW local...
Happy Herbal Sunday! Did you know? I have been teaching people for around 45 years now. That's a LONG time! I began when I was 15 years old, and I worked in a preschool after I finished classes at my high school. I worked there for several years, then I ended up working in a large preschool, then opened my own preschool in my home in my early twenties so I could stay at home with my babies. As my children grew older, and I began sending my oldest children off to school, I became very...
