July 2, 2025 Happy Herbal Wednesday, Reader! Today, we'll discuss the BEST herbs to use in your natural, simple, homemade skincare.... But first, a little story from the past: Way back in the day, I didn't know how to cook. At all. So there I was, a brand-new wife, trying to be the perfect domestic goddess. My husband's birthday was coming up, and I thought, "Hey, how hard could it be to make him a homemade cake?" Here's what went through my head: I'm great at math, and I'm also pretty creative. Plus, I have this old pioneer recipe book and another from the local school PTA ladies. This should be totally doable! Yeah, you can probably guess how this story ends. I dove into that kitchen feeling pretty confident. I mean, it's just flour, eggs, and sugar, right? Well, turns out there's a reason professional bakers actually know what they're doing. Let's just say my "artistic vision" of a beautiful layered birthday cake turned into something that looked more like a lopsided tower of sadness. The layers were crooked, the frosting was sliding off in chunks, and I'm pretty sure I mixed up salt and sugar at some point because it tasted... well, let's not go there. I thought about a redo, but in the end, we ended up just picking up a cake from the grocery store. Lame, right? Looking back, it's hilarious, especially because now I know how to make a great cake, because I got some help! But at the time? Not so much. And honestly, it taught me something pretty important: you don't have to figure everything out by yourself. I get it – especially in the natural health world, we're used to being self-reliant, including maybe even putting your life at risk and trusting Dr. Google. Maybe you've been disappointed by doctors who just wanted to throw pills at your problems. Maybe you've had to become your own health detective because no one else seemed to really listen. And you're absolutely right that you know your body better than anyone else. But here's the thing – sometimes that go-it-alone mentality can actually make things harder than they need to be. It's like trying to hike uphill with a heavy backpack when there's a perfectly good trail guide right there offering to help carry some of the load. There's absolutely nothing wrong with getting help from someone who can get you where you want to go faster and with a lot less frustration. That's what I did with my baking skills long ago. I invested in some help! That's exactly why I'm here for you with Healing Harvest Homestead and the School of Botanical Arts & Sciences. I want to be that helpful guide on your natural health journey and forays into herbalism and aromatherapy. Here are three easy ways we can work together to support your health and family: First, my blog posts, emails, and social media content (YouTube channel) are completely free. I put great stuff right here in these emails and on the blog and YouTube channel, so you're already in the right spot. Second, when you need something more detailed than a quick blog post can provide, check out the Confident Herbalist Tribe! I've created years worth of books; courses; masterclasses; live Q&As with replays, plant chats, and special sessions on herbal topics (like energetics); PLUS the BEST herbalism community you'll ever join specifically designed to give you that deeper guidance. Third, if you're ready to take the first amazing step toward health independence by becoming your family's and community's go-to herbalist, take a look at the School of Botanical Arts & Sciences (SOBAS) by Healing Harvest Homestead. Just like my disastrous attempt at cake making, trying to DIY everything in your health journey can end up taking way longer, being way more frustrating, and sometimes you still need professional help to get the results you actually want. You don't have to keep struggling through this alone. I'm here to help make your path a whole lot easier. **************************************** BEST Herbs to Infuse for Beautiful, Natural Skin If you've ever wanted to create your own skincare products that work for your individual, beautiful skin, then infusing your creations with herbs is an excellent way to enjoy plant power in skincare. Getting the office/apothecary squared away. Working out the little and big kinks. Getting the classroom planned out. Starting our first rows of medicinal herbs out in the fields. Moving the chicken coops and run. Getting our horses moved over to their new pasture. All while continuing to support students in our School of Botanical Arts & Sciences and getting to know our new community. As I write all that, I feel better, and here's why.... Have you ever wondered why you're feeling so tired? Maybe you're doing a LOT. Maybe you're in a season. Sometimes we need to write out the things, and then the tiredness doesn't feel like a failure anymore. Sometimes it's time to give ourselves a lot of grace, and take a little time to go breathe in some pine trees (or trees wherever you are). Being tired and weary is a natural part of our human life in this world. It's ok. That's what I'm acknowledging these days..... "So He came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the parcel of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph; and Jacob's well was there. So Jesus, tired from His journey, was just sitting by the well. It was about the sixth hour." ---John 4:5-6 If you're tired....rest. That's what I'm trying to remember to do, too. Hugs, Health, and Herbs, Heidi P.S. Are you hot these days? We are! Here is where you can get my BEST and FREE formulation for a Cooling Body Spray printable with safety directions for solubility and dilution. It's amazing, and you'll love it! Share with a friend by forwarding this along to them. And let them know to join in the FREE herbalism training if they like, too! ********************************** This note is proudly sponsored by the School of Botanical Arts & Sciences (SOBAS) by Healing Harvest Homestead. July 9, 2025 Happy Wednesday, Reader! "Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." ---Robert Brault The tragedy of the Texas flooding is heartbreaking. Children and adults there...and then gone in an instant. It hurts the heart.... It's truly a reminder to us, isn't it? When horrific events happen, it reminds us all how fragile it all really is, our lives, our friends, our family and homes.... It changes the way we see things, and puts a new...
July 8, 2026 Hey, Reader! When I first began learning to use medicinal plants for medicine, there was hardly any information.... I mean, it was HARD and took SO long to learn herbalism. So, I put these videos in #1 together for you so you can see just how simple this often complex study of herbalism can be if you have the support I wish I had had years ago. And, for #2, this training is a little more advanced because we get into medicinal actions, but it will open your eyes to how powerful...
June 25, 2025 Happy Wednesday, Reader! It was a late Saturday afternoon about 12 years ago, and I was shopping in Las Vegas with a friend of mine. I had made a purchase and reached into my bag for my pocket knife to cut off the tag.... Only it slipped and cut my left fore-finger nearly to the bone across the main knuckle. And WOO! Did it BLEED. It was a gusher! I tightly wrapped a little towel I found in my truck around the wound and held it tightly while thinking about what to do. Back then,...
