The most practical kind of peace I know🌿🌼🌿Wednesday's Weekly Herbal

January 14, 2026

Well, I'm still writing 2025! Are you? 😂 I just changed that date to 2026. Wow.

Still can't wrap my mind around the new year.....or my birthday, which was yesterday. My father, who is well into his nineties, asked me how old I was. When I told him, "Dad, I'm 62 now, and Bryce (my oldest son) is 41 today, too." He got real quiet.

Aging is humbling.

And it doesn't matter which "milestone" age you hit, either. As we get older, it really starts hitting home that our time left here in this world is definitely on the downside of the total time we get.

I once watched Dr. Phil ask people over the age of 50 to come stand on a timeline he had marked off on the stage at the point of their current age. The timeline ended at about 80 years.

The reactions were shocking, and I thought about where I'd be standing on that line....it was sobering. When I think about where I am today, sometimes I get this little "yikes" feeling! But it's all good, because of my faith, thank heavens, no need to fear.

No matter where you are on life's timeline, let's commit to living well!

That's not what I was going to share today, and as always, I'm writing "off the top of my head," so I apologize for the randomness.

What I planned to talk about is FEAR and herbalism.

When it comes to our family’s health, it’s easy to get anxious. You’ve probably had that moment when someone you love doesn’t feel well, and your brain immediately jumps to worst-case scenarios.

Or you read a string of dramatic online articles, and suddenly every little cough sounds like an emergency.

I’ve been there too.

The truth is, fear grows when we feel powerless. But once you understand a few simple things about how medicinal herbs work, and you’ve had a chance to try them and see results for yourself, the fear starts to fade, and your confidence increases.

You begin to realize that you do have some say in the matter — that God gave us a world full of plants that help, and minds that can learn how to use them responsibly. That combination is unbeatable.

Learning herbalism isn’t about throwing away modern medicine. It’s about filling that space between worry and faith in medicinal herbs as a health choice with understanding, knowledge, and good (fun) practice.

You’ll find that knowledge replaces panic.

Practice brings ease and excellent intuition.

And small successes start stacking up quickly until you can look at a family sniffle and think, “I’ve got this.”

When you can stir together a simple tea for respiratory help, supporting healthy bones, or a chai blend for daily support....

When you know how to make a sleep blend that actually helps your kids settle down…

When you can reach for herbs that calm your own nerves after a long day…

And when you have finally dialed in your own personal "herbal routine" for your daily use....

That’s when you (and your family) begins to trust that health isn’t something mysterious or out of reach. Health is something you can nurture right in your own kitchen.

Confidence with herbalism doesn’t arrive all at once, but it does show up as you experience the medicinal plants that people used to just know about in the long ago past.

You build this confidence each time you learn, observe, and apply what you’ve discovered. It takes action.

When you share that assurance with your children or your spouse, they feel it too. And they very often become quite excited right along with you. They start to see that this way of caring for our health with medicinal plants is real, practical, and doable for a family.

One of my students said:

I can now make what I need and formulate the products myself!
"It dawned on me today that I am now able to navigate the "pharmacy" section of natural food stores. I'm also able to make most of the things on the shelves at home, and I can formulate them myself! Thank you, Heidi!
–Heather Savage, Herbalist and Student of SOBAS

Herbal learning is a form of stewardship — over your health, your home, and for the next generation. Medicinal herbs are not weird or magical. Herbal learning is simply choosing to grow your understanding of the beautiful plant gifts that God created for us so you can meet health challenges with calmness and confidence instead of fear.

This makes a world of difference for you and your family!

If you’re ready to start learning or want a clear starting point, I’d love for you to join me in a free set of videos I'm calling my Home Herbalism All Access Page. It's available for a very short time, just for you.

And to go with these videos, there's ALSO a free guide for Creating Your Home Apothecary.

We're getting ready to open enrollment (officially this coming Sunday) for our Family Herbalist programs, Ditch the Drugstore and our Family Herbalist Certification program.

I love starting new groups of students for these programs! It's so fun and full of the vibrant energy of learning herbalism for real, with practical applications and hands-on help.

🌿 wants to become healthier and/or to help family members become healthier using natural methods and medicinal plants

🌿 is brand new to herbalism OR who has been studying for awhile yet has never created a real and functioning custom family home apothecary

🌿 is interested in leaving a legacy for your family's health knowledge before it's too late

🌿 homeschools your children and wants to include them (many of our homeschool families have received educational credits from our programs)

and who wants better health, naturally.... then be sure to get signed up for our special webinar training next week. (If you signed up already, please do so again, because there was a glitch--I'm so sorry about that).

You'll be learning all about the five best herbs to begin your home apothecary with AND you'll receive a 29 page guide to these herbs, how to grow them, and remedies you can make right away. Click HERE or the image below to register.

WHEW!

I know this seems like a lot of free trainings and guides for you this week! Enjoy these, dive into herbalism and some aromatherapy, and begin creating your family's home apothecary....without fear.

12/31/2025 Happy New Year's Eve! Are you excited? I haven't decided how I feel about this new year, yet....but it behooves all of us to be hopeful, right? And grateful..... We're in the dead of winter, and although this is the warmest winter I remember since we moved off grid to the mountains of S. Nevada and here to Idaho combined (about 15 years), we're still enjoying green pastures up here! To be honest..... It's a concern. Without the snowpack, summers can be harder than usual. In fact,...
