The decision that changed her life 🌼🌿🌼

12/1/2025

Happy Cyber Monday!

I was standing in my kitchen yesterday, stirring a cup of herbal tea I had just blended up, both to kickstart my immune system and also to provide a bit of help to my post-menopausal hair.....

The well-known and loved feeling of blessing and awe that I know what herbs to choose, how to combine, and what to consume to support my body and the bodies of my sweet family and friends for both chronic and acute needs once again washed over me.

I can't tell you how many thousands of times I've had this thought in all the years, now. I am so glad I chose to learn herbalism and to manage my health better, naturally.

I had just peeked in at my jam-packed email inbox and, remembering the stack of ads I received in my physical mailbox the day before, I thought,

“The world is buying more stuff
What's REALLY important in the world these days is having valuable skills.”

Last year, I received an email from a lady who had been thinking about learning herbalism and maybe aromatherapy. Her words were simple and a little raw. She had said,

“I’m watching everyone rush around spending money on "stuff", and all I can think is: I want to be the mom who knows what to do when my family needs help with their health. I don’t need another gadget. I need to feel confident. But I’m scared I’ll mess up… and I don’t know where to start. Can you help with some advice?”

Maybe you can relate to that feeling. I sure can.

That's exactly how I felt when I began my herbalism path and made the decision to find a course to take so long ago. Back then, there weren't any courses at all. Nowadays, there are SO many, and some of them are even created by AI! (Artificial Intelligence---very dangerous when it comes to medicinal herbs)

Anyhow, she told me she had been quietly reading my newsletters for over a year, and also “saving for later” for months. Every time she saw a class or a course, she’d think, Someday… when I have more time. When things calm down. When I’m not so overwhelmed.

You know how that goes. “Someday” is very sneaky. It looks responsible on the surface, but it can quietly turn into never.

Finally, she took the plunge, and she joined us in Ditch the Drugstore, then upgraded to the Family Herbalist Certification Program. She is now also a villager in our Confident Herbalist Tribe!

She chose to invest in something that actually helped change her and her family's life and health instead of adding more clutter to her house.....

She wrote again recently to tell me her husband had reached for her homemade salve instead of the usual store-bought cream and that he was so happy with his reduction in pain.

That her daughter was starting to ask, “Mom, can you make me some more of that oil for my menstrual cramps?"

And that her college-aged son had called to ask her what herbs he should get at the grocery store to help with an oncoming sore throat and what felt like a little cold....

She told me that she’d organized a little corner of her pantry into a family apothecary, and every jar she filled made her feel a little more steady, a little more hopeful....And she was finally feeling like a "real" herbalist!

She had changed her family's health story!

And that’s really what learning herbalism, aromatherapy, and natural holistic health is about.

Not perfection. Not doing it “like the experts.”
Just one decision at a time that says:

  • I choose learning herbalism skills over more stuff.
  • I choose confidence over constant googling at midnight.
  • I choose community over feeling alone in this.

This whole holiday weekend, the world is shouting about scarcity, deadlines, and more, more, more. And yet, deep down, so many of us are craving less noise, more meaning. Less plastic, more plants. Less panic, more peace.

So if there’s a nudge in your heart saying,
“I want to be the one who knows what to do… I want to finally take this herbal journey seriously…”
—I want you to know this: you’re not alone, and you’re not too late.

"Being able to help people and my family naturally without harmful side effects is everything to me. Learning about herbal medicine is one thing, but seeing for yourself the results is another thing, it's mind-blowing overall. My kids also experience the results of these herbs, and they are now wanting to learn herbal medicine. What a great blessing, and I love everything about understanding herbal medicine. This course was taught with passion and true intentions on wanting to really educate people correctly, and I'm grateful to be part of that. 😊"

I remember when my (now 35 year old) 12 year old son wanted a computer, and they were SO expensive 23-ish years ago. They were also dial-up, slow, clunky, and kind of worthless..... But they were the new thing! Our little family was visiting in Carson City, NV with my mom for Thanksgiving that year, and the next morning was the BIG Black Friday sale at the brand NEW local...

11/26/2025 Happy Herbal Wednesday! I'm getting ready to cook for Thanksgiving Day tomorrow. This is going to be one of the most different Thanksgivings we've had, as I'll be cooking most of the meal then driving it over to my mom's house, where we'll have our small gathering together. I had some memories, as I was gathering items in the kitchen.... When I was a little girl, Thanksgiving was very different than in these modern days. It was chaotic. It was messy. It was BIG. My mom and dad...

Happy Herbal Sunday! Did you know? I have been teaching people for around 45 years now. That's a LONG time! I began when I was 15 years old, and I worked in a preschool after I finished classes at my high school. I worked there for several years, then I ended up working in a large preschool, then opened my own preschool in my home in my early twenties so I could stay at home with my babies. As my children grew older, and I began sending my oldest children off to school, I became very...
